About this Event
Ragtime, a uniquely American musical genre, flourished from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Primarily a piano style, it's characterized by its syncopated, "ragged" rhythms played against a steady, march-like bassline. This created a lively, energetic sound that was both popular and influential, paving the way for later jazz styles. While often associated with the piano, ragtime compositions were also written for bands and other ensembles, and its influence extended to early popular music.
Joplin is widely recognized as the "King of Ragtime." This title reflects his immense talent and the profound impact he had on the development and popularization of the genre. He composed some of the most famous and enduring ragtime pieces, including "Maple Leaf Rag" and "The Entertainer”. These compositions are considered quintessential examples of classic ragtime.
Wrightwoodians will have a rare opportunity to hear ragtime performed live on March 22, at the Wrightwood Place from 7 to 9PM. “An Eventing with Ragtime” will showcase Craig & Company and feature award winning ragtime pianist, Eve Elliot.
Beer, wine and soda will be sold by the WWPOA; charcuterie cups and dessert will also be available for purchase.
